Baku. Azerbaijan. August 7. They are demanding that authorities provide them with housing, according to the Utopia-56 association, Trend reports, citing TASS.

More than 100 homeless people are organizing a demonstration and setting up an impromptu tent camp at Bastille Square in Paris, demanding that they be provided with housing.

“Along with dozens of isolated young people and families living on the streets, we join the 100 people without homes occupying Bastille Square. Our demands are simple: housing for all and a commitment to provide housing to those who are prioritized for social housing,” states the organization’s statement. This organization joined the demonstration of another NGO that has been occupying the square since August 4.

In turn, the organizers of the initial action, the Droit au logement (DAL) association, stated on their X (formerly Twitter) page that, in the context of the Olympic Games, France has become the “champion of housing shortages.” “Records have been broken in the number of homeless, vacant residential properties, unprocessed applications for social housing, evictions, violations of tenant rights, and those in need of housing!” wrote the association. DAL also announced that they have several “unexpected actions” planned for this week and called to “stop the social cleansing accelerated by the Olympics.”

The police, arriving at the square, demanded that the protesters leave. The Paris police prefecture accused them of organizing an impromptu camp. Law enforcement officials began dismantling the tents set up in the center of the square, including those with people inside.
