Azerbaijan has the obligation and authority to implement border control and transparency measures to prevent illegal use of the Lachin road and to prevent misuse of the road, stated in the commentary of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Aykhan Hajizada, on the statement by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs of France regarding the Lachin road, APA reports.
It was noted that despite these efforts, the Armenian side continues to refrain from desisting its provocations. They have once again opened fire on the border crossing point, attempted smuggling, and tried to send cargo vehicles into the territory without Azerbaijan’s permission. Despite these provocations, Azerbaijan has once again facilitated the passage of Armenian civilians through the border crossing point with the assistance of the International Committee of the Red Cross. In just one day, on July 27, a total of 34 individuals and 7 vehicles were able to cross through the Lachin border crossing point. Although alternative routes, including “Aghdam-Khankendi”, have been proposed for the transportation of large volumes of goods to the territory, the long-term disrespect for this decision in the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan shows that the allegations regarding the humanitarian situation, as they are merely speculative in nature.
